Adventure Activities In North Wales For Stag & Hen Parties
Make your weekend unforgettable with our Adventures in snowdoniaOrganising a Stag / Hen Weekend In North Wales?
DIY stag / hen parties are without a doubt the way to go. Fortunately in North Wales you’ve got all the options and a huge range activities, places to say and things to do. It’s easy to craft the perfect weekend for you and your friends. Whist some companies offer “all-in-one packages” (where your entire trip is taken care of for you), in our experience people have a better time planning it themselves. Most groups don’t want to spend their whole weekend with a rep / instructor on their shoulder and they’re generally not great value for money!
How do i plan a DIY Stag Or Hen Party In North Wales?
This is relatively straight forward! You need to decide what sort of accommodation you would like, the area where you would like to stay and the activities you would like to do. There are genuinely a huge variety of options and there is something for to suit all groups. Some people would like a log cabin in the woods cut off from the world, others would rather a farmhouse with a hot tub close to town. If you’d like any advice we’re always happy to answer any questions you have, just drop us an e-mail. We’ve also collected some ideas and information, check out our DIY Stag Guide at the bottom of the page.
Which Activities Are Best For Stag & Hen Parties?
If you’re doing anything in North Wales it needs to be the “Canyon Extreme” trip. This adventure is perfect because it can be run in any weather (it’s great in the rain!) and the second you hit that refreshing mountain water your hangover is going to be vaporised! It’s fun with a small group but equally easy to run with a large group (eg up to ~20).
Looking for a full day of outdoor adventure activities? We normally pair the Canyoning with the Rock Climbing & Abseiling although if you wanted something more relaxing then you could opt for Kayaking & Canoeing. All our activities are half day sessions and we run 2 or 3 per day. See below for more information about which of our trips in Snowdonia is best for your stag or hen group.
Our Top Rated Adventure Activities For Stag & Hen Parties:
Canyon Extreme
This is genuinely the best thing you’re going to do in North Wales. Minimal fitness required but it’s 2-3hrs of physical activity. You don’t need to be mega adventurous either but there is a mandatory slide off a 5m (blind) waterfall. Fortunately all the big jumps are optional! Whilst we accept non-swimmers in low water levels, participants can’t be too scared to get in.
Generally this trip is good for everyone; extremely nervous people can enjoy the temperate rainforest scenery and adrenalin junkies can do all the giant jumps. Canyon Extreme is the wildest adventure activity in North Wales and it’s guaranteed to be a truly memorable experience.
Rock Climbing & Abseiling
Rock climbing is a great activity for all ages. It’s really easy for us to adjust the challenge level (and climb different routes) and nobody is ever under any pressure to complete a climb; participants can come down at any point they choose.
The abseil is mentally challenging but physically it’s simple; you’re going with gravity! Some people have tried climbing indoors and this is even more fun being the real thing. Previous experience is absolutely not required and neither is a head for heights!
Kayaking & Canoeing
If you’re looking for a slower paced adventure then you ought to join us on a relaxing paddle up the gently flowing tidal estuary. Spot animals, learn about the flora and fauna and listen to the local myths and legends. This trip is best enjoyed in the sun! We’ve got single sit on top kayaks, tandems and open top Canadian canoes.
The kayaking makes for a nice ‘low adrenaline” accompanying activity to the Canyon Extreme adventure. A relaxing start on the estuary leads to an action packed afternoon in the gorge.

DIY Stag / Hen Guide To North Wales:
Locations South
Barmouth (seaside choice) – The best seaside town, lots of amenities, good pubs, close to climbing, canyoning and mountain biking.
Porthmadog – Good weather, fairly central, moderate amenities, not great pubs (Beddgelert may be a nicer spot)
Blaenau Ffestiniog (rural choice) – Very central and surrounded by mountains and scenery but more rain, less amenities and no nightlife.
Dolgellau – rural natural setting, a few pub options, the quieter side of the national park
Locations North
Betws Y Coed (popular choice) – Fairly central, lots of amenities but only 2 pubs, pretty village with worse weather compared to the coast, lively but can be busy in the summer.
Llanberis – Quite north, moderate amenities but no nightlife. Rainy and busy with people doing Snowdon.
Bangor – Very far north but if you want to stay out late go here. Many pubs and restaurants but a bit run down.
Caernarfon – Again, a bit on the periphery but it has a lot of pubs and restaurants. Unlikely to be the top choice for most groups.
Duration
2 nights should be enough but if you can stretch to 3 nights then you should be able to enjoy some time in North Wales without a hangover!
Day 1 – arrive; most people won’t manage an activity but you could? Otherwise it’s beers and BBQ!
Day 2 – Activities! Rock Climbing and Canyon Extreme followed by dinner somewhere and a few (too many?) beers in some nice pubs
Day 3 – A late breakfast somewhere. Maybe get some fresh air and do a small mountain like Cnicht before heading home?
Activities
We don’t think we are biased; the Canyon Extreme trip is a must. It’s the perfect adventure because you can do it in a heatwave or a thunderstorm; we virtually never need to cancel.
The climbing is also a really good group activity and it’s easier doing a whole day with one provider.
If you’re looking for a slower morning before the adrenalin of the Canyon Extreme trip, the kayaking and canoeing on the estuary could be a steady way to start the day! Our trips are tide dependant though.
Other Activities
Here are some other ideas;
Mountain Biking – fun 3hr rides, the main trail centres Coed-y-Brenin, Antur Stiniog (uplift!) and Betws-y-Coed. Good in all weather, get an e-bike for minimal effort.
Go Below – good in the rain because it’s underground but if it’s sunny you’d rather be outside, especially with a hangover! Genuinely good adventures but you can’t do 2 things in a day.
Zip Word – popular but average. Think theme park not adventure; whilst ‘rides’ are exciting the trips only take a few minutes in reality. Good for a secondary activity; Quarry Carts are recommended but the Zip Wire is not great value for money.
Coasteering – Similar to the Canyon but not as varied and it can get cancelled in windy conditions; you’re mainly climbing out, jumping in, and getting washed around in the waves. The only good place for this in North Wales is the far side of Anglesey
Accomodation
There are a huge variety of options here in North Wales. You can easily find somewhere to fit 20 people and most places are ‘stag friendly’.
Big farmhouses – check on AirB&B and Sykes, there are many options
Big Bunkhouses – There are also lots of these including Treks, Vagabond, The Rocks and a few converted YHA buildings
Hotels / B&Bs – Check booking.com for lots of options
Log Cabins – There are quite a few places with clusters of cabins, often with jacuzzis!
Camping – It’s not for everyone but some may enjoy being out in nature. Camping near the sea will give you the best of the weather.
