Mountain Skills – Hill Walking Course
If you’re looking to get out in the mountains on your own then there are some basic skills you need to keep yourself out of trouble. This 1-2 day course will teach you about planning a route, the weather, navigation, equipment and what to do if you get in to trouble.
Navigation Course
We’ve all got GPS now but knowing how to navigate (using a map) is a critical skill for looking after yourself in the mountains. The best thing is it’s actually really good fun once you understand it. Our 1-2 day navigation course will take you from novice to expert and you’ll learn all about map reading, planning a route, locating your position and making sense of the ground around you.
Advanced Navigation
If you’ve already got some map reading skills but you don’t quite feel like you’re a Jedi yet (if you can nav at night or in zero vis you probably are!) then we can sharpen your skills and build on that foundation. We focus on high level navigation skills so that you can operate anywhere anytime. Measuring, timing, pacing, slope aspects, elevation; these are all essential techniques used to keep you on track when your battery is dead and you can’t see a hand in front of your face. The mountains become more friendly when you’ve mastered these skills on our 2 day course!
Hill Walker to Mountaineer
This 1 day workshop is for those looking to venture out on to steeper terrain. Learn about what it means to get off the footpath and on to some rockier parts of the mountain. Route choice, planning, movement on steep ground and escape options; these are some of the key topics we will be covering with the aim of tackling grade 1 scrambles.
Navigation & Wild Camping
Do you like the idea of getting out for multi day mountaineering adventures? This 2 day 1 night course will teach you how to plan, pack and execute am overnight wild camping trip in the Snowdonia National Park. Along the way we will load you up with all the mountain skills knowledge you can handle!
Guided Mountain Days
Book a private mountain guide and let’s summit some of North Wales most iconic mountains. With classics including Snowdon (the busiest mountain in the world!) Tryfan, Moel Siabod, Cnicht and Cadair Idris, there’s no shortage of great days out to be had. Group size is dependant on route; for non-technical mountains we can do 1:10, for graded scrambles the ratio is lower.
